Project Background: Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, built in 1930s, was one of the three major hub airports in China and played an important role in the layout of China’s civil airports. On August 5, 2004, Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport, the total investment of which amounts to CNY19.8 billion, was officially put into operation. This is the first air harbor designed and built according to the concept of hub airport in China. The airport covers an area of 15 sq.km. In Phase I project, the two parallel runways in the flight area are designed per 4E standards and the terminal area is designed per the requirement of satisfying a passenger throughput of 25 million in 2010. The area of the terminal in Phase I of the New Airport is 320,000 sqm, the largest of all terminals in China, and all facilities and equipment therein are up to today’s international advanced level.
